Known as an impressionist artist, he studied in Rome and Paris, and in 1936 he settled permanently in France. Most of his works emphasize the human figure and are deeply inspired by the masters of Impressionism, especially by Edgar Degas. Gall has a predilection for the representation of female characters (especially his wife and daughters), engaged in traditionally feminine activities such as ballet, arranging hair, sewing, which he renders with free, expressive strokes and in pastel and shiny colors that often serve him as models. With a free, luminous and vibrant brushwork, Gall captures in this work, which we can frame within the period of 1956 and which is representative of the artist's Parisian theme, a bohemian atmosphere of interwar Paris, but at the same time the portrayal of a young woman on the banks of the Seine. In this way, the artist manages to combine the intimate portrait with the urban landscape, in pastel tones and warm reflections, characteristic of his modern impressionist style. One of the defining features of his work is the portrayal of his wife and daughters within his works, participating in various activities, through which he tries to transpose into his work a form of visual and emotional intimacy towards the viewer. In many of his works, his wife is often surprised at rest or reading, with gentle and delicate features. His daughters appear in playful poses, on the banks of the Seine, at a picnic or in melancholic poses, painted in pastel tones, with a warm light, all of which accentuate the fragility and purity of childhood. Moreover, Gall does not seek a form, but a psychic state, an affective closeness between him and the models he realizes, where a few examples in this sense are: ,,Mother with child”, ,,Girl in blue dress”, ,,Young woman in the park” or ,,Interior with woman reading".
