The present work is a collage inspired by the painting Untitled (Study for Dada room), which was exhibited at Art Basel in 2017, Hong Kong edition. The "Study for Dada Room" (2011) was part of a series of works based on photographs with various perspectives from the Dada room. The Dada Room project (2010) was presented at the exhibition within SMAK Ghent, and this was a kind of walk-in painting in full size, a near life-size model of the First International Dada Exhibition, which took place in a living room in Berlin in 1920. The specially built room, lit by a single fluorescent lamp, is an amalgamation of images, colors and objects that form a three-dimensional manifestation of Ghenie's pictorial style. This room hosts a synthesis of the substance of his paintings and, at the same time, his tactile, "accidental" manner. According to Dada antilogic, autobiographical memories and artistic connotations merge with historical references, which here are always discreet. Ghenie's study on materiality, texture, and surface reaches its peak in the Dada Room: the painted walls transform into a thick substance on the floor, while the abundant use of paint makes the room heavy and absorbs the objects in it. Ghenie experiments with the question to what extent a three-dimensional installation can still be perceived as a painting. In this way, he has over time been able to make his mark with his works regardless of the techniques used. The artist represented Romania at the Venice Biennale, with the exhibition "Darwin’s Room", becoming a benchmark for the emerging generation of artists.
