His works have demonstrated a special concern for the life of people in the rural area, but he often also illustrated the city world, craftsmen, workers, as well as the joy of holiday days. In his work, he seeks to capture psychological effects through compositional organization and successively goes through the peculiarities of German and French impressionism. During the maturity years between 1900-1918, Vermont focuses more on realizing and better defining the portrait. Regarding their realization, the emphasis is on psychological traits, on emphasizing the moral particularities of the characters he portrays. This work is dated 1907 and is representative of Nicolae Vermont's concerns about the human condition, social tensions, and personal dramas, which he transposes with a realistic sensitivity and a meticulous attention to the expressive and psychological details of the characters. The work brings to the fore two characters, a young woman inside a room who is caught in the middle of a household task and a male character represented behind her who is elegantly dressed and wears a black hat. The composition is balanced, built around the two characters who dominate the entire composition, especially over the female character who is captured in a moment of concentration regarding the action she is about to take further.
