A testament to his national spirituality, the work of Nicolae Grigorescu presents us with an essentialized panorama of the perfect image of nature and man, to which the artist will remain faithful throughout his creation. The attention he will pay to village life will illustrate the very connection with the environment in which he was born and raised. Starting from the country's landscapes - Rucăr, Câmpina, Muscel, Ghergani, Dâmbovița Valley, Buzău Valley or Moldova Valley, to the local people and their daily occupations, the artist will show us realistic views of the picturesque Romanian. One of the extensive expositions of his work will be the Centennial Exhibition of 1938, at the Romanian Academy, supported by the sovereign protection of H. M. King Carol II, which also drew attention to the creation of a museum. Presented in chronological images, the exhibition will bring together epochs and various subjects, panoramically depicting landscapes from Barbizon, Breton and Norman villages, numerous faces and landscapes, streets from Vitré, as well as numerous works inspired by one of his most prominent themes - the Romanian village. Part of this exhibition will also include the work "The Heat of the Hearth" from the Maria and Ion Ionescu-Quintus collection - which gathered in its treasuries during the interwar period works of artists such as: Theodor Aman, Ion Andreescu, Ștefan Luchian, Nicolae Tonitza, Francisc Șirato, Marius Bunescu, Gheorghe Petrașcu, Iosif Iser, Sava Henția, Ștefan Popescu, Ion Theodorescu-Sion, Lascar Vorel, Aurel Jiquidi or Constantin Jiquidi. Starting from the 30s, the Quintus art collection will enjoy public recognition, being often requested on the occasion of events such as the major retrospectives of the great masters: Nicolae Grigorescu (1938), Ștefan Luchian (1939, 1968), Ion Andreescu (1950), Marius Bunescu (1956), as well as on the occasion of exhibitions such as "Interparliamentary Exhibition of Modern and Contemporary Art" in Bucharest (1931), "G. Petrașcu Exhibition" (1933), "Official Salon (1931).
