Initially created in 1857 upon request from editor and bibliophile Paul Gallimard, the work is a facsimile, illustrated by artist Auguste Rodin using stylus-drawing and tint-drawing techniques. The original copy is found at the Rodin Museum in Paris, having been acquired in 1931. (G.M.)
