Research information

The work is reproduced in the "Catalog of the Anastasia Foundation Pinacoteca", Bucharest, Anastasia Foundation Publishing, 2011, p. 231.

The creator of a "drawer" work during the communist regime, Florin Mitroi outlined an atypical universe on his canvas, tormented by anguish, with a predisposition for violence and eroticism. His work is characterized by an exacerbated existential crisis, with erotic and moral connotations. In a constant state of revelation, the painter often resorted to stratifying a deeply spiritual imaginative frame. Whether he painted depressed faces or abstract landscapes, Florin Mitroi maintained his thematic rigor. The truth of his artistic credo is simplicity. Florin Mitroi vehemently refused to display his creations. Thus, the painter had only one personal exhibition in 1993. Florin Mitroi continued his artistic journey in solitude, disagreeing with his contemporaries who promoted a superficial progressive movement. Thus, his compositions gradually became an escapism mechanism, refusing to perpetuate kalophilia in his work. During the 80's and 90's, the painter creates a personal and symbolic work, closely connected to taboo subjects such as death or eroticism. In the present work we observe an abstract space, with a color palette limited to two predominant colors: black and green. A sterile landscape, deeply esoteric, through which the painter intends to dilute the essence of his thematic credo in the form of formal synthesis.
