Ion Grigorescu used art as a tool for reflection on the historical context during the 1960s-90s. The painter did not align his artistic identity with the rigor of socialist realism canons, his work being a form of cultural resistance. Thus, his artistic universe is manifested through several means of expression adapted to the socio-historical context. The present work, "The Ark. The Miraculous Fishing", belongs to a series dedicated to faith, with themes inspired by the Gospel and Christian iconography. Ion Grigorescu paid increased interest to religious themes, trying, at the same time, to combine Orthodox spirituality with new painting techniques. The current work is a fresco worked on wire mesh, emphasizing, with the help of the material, the symbolism of the created image.
