Obverse legend: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P Reverse legend: COS V P P S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPAL / DACCAP The "Dacia Capta" coin celebrates the Roman victory over Dacia, following the wars led by Trajan between 101-102 and 105-106 AD, culminating in the defeat of King Decebal and the integration of Dacia into the Roman Empire. The denarius is a testament to Rome's military triumph and a symbol of the expansion of the empire. On the reverse of the coin appears Dacia (often personified as a woman sitting on a shield, with her hands tied, symbolizing defeat), and around it is the inscription DAC(IA) CAP(TA), signifying that Dacia has been subdued and brought under Roman rule. This is a commemorative coin, celebrating the conquest of the Dacian territories and their integration into the Roman Empire. After the defeat of Dacia, Trajan organized the region into a province, Roman Dacia, which became an important source of natural resources, especially gold, used to support the imperial economy. The coins issued in this context reflect both the imperial triumph and the integration of the new province into the Roman administrative and economic framework. The Dacia Capta coin was used as a tool of political and military propaganda. Trajan wanted to convey the message that the Roman Empire is invincible and capable of defeating any adversary, and victory over Dacia was one of the most important achievements of his reign. This coin was widely distributed and was a symbol of Roman pride.
