The "Order of the Crown of Romania" was established by King Carol I on March 14, 1881, after Romania was proclaimed a kingdom. The medal's design was executed by the artist Theodor Aman. The Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown of Romania has a sign of 70 mm. It is pinned on a sash that is worn from the right shoulder to the left hip and is accompanied by a silver plaque shaped like an eight-rayed star, 90 mm in diameter, on which the cross of the Order is applied, matching in size with that of a Commander. The sash is 100 mm wide (with two stripes of 20 mm each on the edges) and is of a length equal to the bust's circumference. The rank of Grand Cross can only be worn with a tailcoat or military ceremonial attire. The Grand Cross plaque is worn on the chest, on the left side, under the heart.
