Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch "TinTin" wristwatch, men, reference 311.30.42.30.01.004, manual winding mechanism, calibre 1861, black dial, with three registers. Original stainless steel bracelet with deployant-type closure. Accessory: original wooden box. The watch became desirable by collectors with the presentation of the brand in Basel. Fratello Watches' Robert-Jan Broer learned from Omega's head of product development, Jean-Claude Monachon, that the red and white colour scheme was the by-product of an attempt to celebrate a fictional lunar explorer, "Tintin”. Hergé's 16th volume of Tintin's Adventures, "Destination Moon," was first published in 1950, almost two decades before the Apollo 11 mission. Tintin's rocket was decorated with a distinctive checkered red and white paint. These inspired the Speedmaster piece and the unusual red inscription on the back of the case. The original designed dial would have also placed a rocket at eleven. Discussions with Hergé copyright owners were discontinued so only one watch made according to the original plan exists.
