The preference for rural-themed subject matter can particularly be identified starting with 1923, with the frequent visits of the renowned artist couple (Samuel Mützner - Rodica Maniu) to the villages in Oltenia. Starting with 1923, Samuel Mützner assumes village life as the main theme of his works. He elevates the rural space to the rank of art and captures the local color of rustic life. He creates, alongside his wife, in the village where she inherits a small estate, in Olt county. The house hidden under the shadow of the trees reveals to the two artists a unique setting. Samuel Mützner has a favorite spot from where he works, near a tree, a place from where he can admire the poplars and willows of the village. He creates in the open air and goes through numerous regions which he gradually integrates into his canvases. At other times, he ends up in the area of the springs near the field and models his color palette according to the evolution of nature. He often paints surrounded by the village children, curious to learn the craft of the master from the city. He captures landscapes with hills, fields or cornfields and concentrates on depicting the seasons under the stamp of which he paints. He works with short, quick strokes, harmoniously juxtaposed and adjusts his lighting taking into account the time of day, space and season.
