PROVENANCE

Prof. Costin Murgescu's collection, corresponding member of the Academy, and filmmaker Ecaterina Oproiu.

The studies carried out in Paris will spark the Romanian painter's appetite for travel. He will discover Venice, which he will transcribe into remarkable pictorial frescoes, creating panoramas of canals, bridges, or monumental architectural buildings. We will rediscover, in the artist's own vision, Ca d'Oro, Rialto Bridge, Chioggia or the cathedral in Senlis. He returns to this region repeatedly, turning foreign trips into an opportunity to gain knowledge. He visits the great museums and is profoundly impressed by Titian and Velázquez. He takes on the theme of typical houses, submerged in water, rendered in strident colors, predominantly using red and green. The architectural fragmentations and reflections of water inscribe this work in the gallery of remarkable Venetian city landscapes.
