By 963, the foundations of the Marvel Universe were laid. After the introduction of the Fantastic Four in 1961, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Iron Man and Thor appeared. However, Marvel's editor-in-chief, Stan Lee realised something was missing, so Lee and artist Jack Kirby brought the superheroes together to create the Avengers.
