During the last two decades of his career, Aman acquired a more comprehensive and relevant pictorial discourse, using, above all, improvements to his work by practicing engraving and dip pen drawing. It is the stage where Aman managed to create works in which he went beyond his false Academicist background, he worked outdoors, painted by looking at the motifs, without returning to his previous brushstrokes, he experimented with light, but also with its effects on compositions. The small compositions on the surface of the wooden panel are an important part of Theodor Aman's painting, as he often used this type of support for genre scenes or landscapes. Painted mostly in the second part of his career, when landscape was more important, Aman's oil paintings easily reveal his pictorial craftsmanship, due to the high level of detail and the quality of the brushstroke. From the last period of creation of Aman's life we have a series of works which, in the light of contemporaneity, truly reveal its documentary importance. A clear evolution can be identified even after 1870, when Aman started finishing works in his work, creating works of a considerable size, on topics he contemplated greatly, and even revealing considerable interest in issues related to plein air painting.
