The Romanian Communist Party was the basis of the dictatorial regime in Romania between 1948 and 1989. The party created its own public symbolism in which the flag held a central place. Inspired by a Soviet model, it displays the Romanian Communist Party’s coat of arms, hammer and sickle in a field of wheatears on a red cloth.
