Throughout the 20s, Lucian Grigorescu sought and worked to complete his style. From his stay in Baia Mare (1920), to the years spent around Jean Al. Steriadi (with whom he painted in Dobruja), to his Italian stay, at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Rome (1921-1922) and until the discovery of the south of France, Grigorescu approached a plastic language relevant to the times, attracted by Cézanne’s Constructivism, by the Post-Impressionist brushstrokes, as well as by the modernist style of André Derain. In 1927 he settled in Cassis, living and working in the Provence area for over a decade.
