The first journey made by Dărăscu to Northern Italy, to Venice and Chioggia, occurred around 1910, the same period in which Gheorghe Petrașcu discovered the lagoon views. It is perhaps one of the most interesting biographical elements that connects the most famous painters of Venice landscapes that our country has had. In such personal interpretations, the two masters were able to dominate the expressive pictures of the Venetian cities. For more than 25 years, Petraşcu and Dărăscu painted the canals, the lagoons, the markets and the bridges of Venice and Chioggia, while shaping their painting and perfecting it under the influence of the colour. The body of work of the two could survive at the same time not only by the exceptional value of the paintings, but also by the fact that their art managed to cover two different artistic tastes, While Petrașcu rendered a sober Venice, in the stern harmonies of an enamelled palette, Dărăscu enlivened through his chromatic abundance the brilliant glimpses caught in the glow of light and colour. The most important cycles dedicated to Venice by Dărăscu (even if he returned very often to Italy) pointed out various evolutionary stages in his painting. While in the series from 1912-1914 we can see the last manifestations of typically Impressionist brushstrokes, the later periods (mid-20s and 1930-1935) show an extremely pictorial Dărăscu, driven only by the chromatic palette, gradually eliminating the technical experiment.
