With a work created around the theme of nature, Theodor Pallady imposes himself in the Romanian art through the affective content proposed by the natural setting of his canvases. His establishment in France, in 1889, will have a great influence on his evolution and artistic journey. He usually paints in his workshop, placed near the banks of the Seine, in Place Dauphine. He captures the grey atmosphere of Paris and gives the colour the title of interpreter of the soul's states. The passion for autumn colours and the gloomy atmosphere is transposed in the grey skies and the greys in nature reflected in the water's edge. The artist offers a particular attention to the construction of the composition: he harmonises shapes and volumes and achieves chromatic balance through the careful selection of tones. The poetry and mystery of his work is revealed by the soft transparencies dedicated to the Place Dauphine frescoes. Carefully crafted with meticulous detail, Pallady's landscapes retain the documentary character of the period in which they were made. The temptation to perfect true works of art exposes the analytical spirit and power of synthesis of the creator. The illustrated space receives, through the plastic language used, a transfer of vital sensitivity.
