Kimon Loghi remains in the history of Romanian art the only painter who has completely assumed a European symbolism, managing to shape it according to the typical local artistic environment. Educated in the country, at the School of Fine Arts of Aman and Mirea, Loghi will find himself as an artist in the years spent in Germany, in Munich, where, under the wing of Franz von Stuck, he will shape his style. The period dominated by studies and travels was followed by an intense activity in the country, confirmed by his constant participation in the events of the Tinerimea Artistica (The Artistic Youth) society, which he led for a long period of time (1927-1940). Belonging to the generation of artists who created in the Romantic era, Kimon Loghi's works are inspired by the magical world of Romanian fairy tales. The appeal to the world of legends and fantasies is reminiscent of the themes of English Pre-Raphaelitism, themes that Loghi has moulded into his own unmistakable style.
