PROVENANCE

Collection of Petar Mladenov, Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs (1971-1989); 1972-2002, collection of George Macovescu, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs (1972-1978) and President of the Romanian Union of Writers (1978-1982); from 2002, collection of the heirs of George Macovescu.

The painting "Autumn landscape" has a very interesting journey. It is part of the collection of George Macovescu - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania from 1972 to 1978. It was presented as an official government gift by Petar Mladenov - the longest serving Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria for his Romanian counterpart, with the ooccasion of his entry into office in 1972. Macovescu's collection is very rich and includes European and American authors. Today, the painting returns to Bulgaria and is offered to the public for the first time. It is emblematic of Zlatyu Boyadzhiev's late work, when he already had an established style and an established name of one of the famous Bulgarian artists. The painting presents a traditional rural landscape with a bridge, human figures and buildings against a background of light hills, reminiscent of Melnik. The canvas is immersed in a noble, golden light which enlightens the viewer and warms up the artist's vision. (S.N)
