Rică Răducanu and Mircea Lucescu played together under the flag of the Romanian national team at the World Cup in Mexico, 1970. "We went too early to Mexico, three weeks before the start, following the Soviet model, with long camps. There were also many discussions, due to nervousness and frustration, plus a state of concern, because there had been major floods in the country and we lacked information about what was happening at home," declared Mircea Lucescu. Necula Răducanu, known simply as Rică Răducanu and nicknamed by the Giuleşteni supporters "Nea Rică", is one of the players who represented Romania at the 1970 World Cup. Then, Nea Rică became the first goalkeeper introduced from the bench, at a World Championship. It happened in the confrontation with Pele's Brazil, when the goalkeeper raised in Giulești was introduced by the coach Angelo Niculescu in the 27th minute, instead of Stere Adamache. Rică Răducanu defended the "tricolor" goal excellently in the duel at Guadalajara, but he could not intervene at the second goal scored by Pele.
