Descriere

The auction of a part of the Darius Valcov collection, accumulated over approximately a decade of collecting, put up for sale today in a forced execution, includes not few masterpieces, signed by artists with museum value, some of them internationally traded and recognized, as well as their sources of acquisition have varied over time, between local art auctions and international ones, including the famous houses Sotheby's and Christie's London or Artcurial Paris. Victor Brauner, an exponential representative of the avant-garde movement, is present in our small auction with three works, two graphics (pen, respectively pencil) and a large oil painting, as rarely seen in collections in Romania, private or in museums. "The Relation" not only amazes with its dimensions, it is a rich and solid stylistic chromatic work, created during the artist's artistic maturity period, and it has been part of several important collections, initially in Europe, then in America. We also find two rare sketches, of international circulation, inspired by Jean Cocteau's Orphic Trilogy (scenarios written and directed by the artist, reimagining the myth of Orpheus in modern contexts), one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Another premiere is a ink drawing by Pablo Picasso, "Bullfight Scene", made in the late 50s, carrying a theme extensively explored by the artist - that of bullfights (and the human condition) that he was fascinated by, repeatedly, throughout his life.
