The artwork is reproduced in "Calendarul Minervei" under the title "La culesul porumbului" (Harvesting Corn), 1915, p.124. The artwork is reproduced in "Revista Luceafarul," Year XIII, No. 7. The artwork is reproduced in the catalog "Octav Băncilă 1872-1972," published by the Museum of Art of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Bucharest, 1972, p.34, under the title "Țărani făcând mămăligă" (Villagers Making Mămăligă).

In Octav Băncilă's creation, the rural world holds a special place, gradually becoming one of his main sources of inspiration. As early as the late 19th century, the artist directed his attention toward the peasant universe, sensitively capturing the people, their work, and the realities of their daily life. However, the theme developed more substantially around 1900, when the artist paid increasing attention to the peasant, agricultural work, and the living conditions of the rural population. Băncilă most often focused on the everyday life of people, the working class, and peasants, carefully studying their costumes and customs, and managing to depict their entire psychology pictorially. The work depicts two figures with their backs turned, in a cornfield. Nearby, there is a cauldron where they are preparing polenta and cleaning some corn cobs. The scene captures a simple moment from the ordinary life of rural people, where the two are not presented in a festive or idealized pose, nor in elegant clothing, but in their everyday attire, in an ordinary moment. Similar examples include: "In the field," "On the field," "Landscape with tents," or "Peasants harvesting potatoes," which can be found at the Buch
