The icon of Saint Apostle James is a series with the icon of Saint Apostle Simon; they were part of the same frieze of Apostles, belonging to the same iconostasis made in Brâncovenesc style, being painted in the same period by the same anonymous painter. The Apostle is depicted in the same attitude: standing, on a golden-yellow background in the upper part of the icon, and green in the lower part, facing left. With both hands he holds a scroll. He wears a blue chiton and a violet himation, with the angular folds of the garments depicted in the same color, in darker shades for the shadow areas and lighter for those in light. According to Ereminia, he is represented with chestnut hair and beard, and the facial features and their modeling are executed in accordance with the Brâncovenesc painting style. Around his head he wears a halo delimited from the background of the icon by a red line. The inscription designating the saint's name is painted red, with Cyrillic letters, in Romanian. A red painted border frames the field of the icon.
