The icon is part of the same series with the Apostle Simon and the Apostle James, and was made together with these and with the icon of the Apostle Mark, as part of the same frieze of the Apostles from the same Brâncovenesc iconostasis. The Apostle Mark is depicted standing, under a cintrated arch, on a golden-yellow background in the upper part of the icon and green in the lower part. He is slightly turned to the right. With both hands he holds a open gospel at his chest, its text being rendered in Cyrillic characters, in Romanian. He is dressed in a red chiton and a blue himation, the draping of the garments being performed in angular folds, rendered in the same color, in darker shades for shadows and brighter for lights. According to the interpretation, he is portrayed as a mature man, with chestnut hair and beard. The features of the face, as well as its model, is done in shades of ochre, fitting into the style of Brâncovenesc painting. The halo around the head is delimited from the background of the icon by a red line. A wide border, painted with red on the edges, delimits the field of the icon. Similarly, the designation inscription of the character is painted with red, with Cyrillic letters, in Romanian.
