The Venetian mathematician and cartographer Girolamo Ruscelli (1518-1566) edited Ptolemy's ‘Geography’ and Giacomo Castaldi's ‘Little Atlas’. The two were included by him in a work of his own, ‘The New Atlas’, of which the present piece is a part, published in Venice in 1561. Engraving on copper.
