The French cartographer Guillaume de l'Isle (or Delisle, 1675-1726) received in 1718 the title of ‘First Geographer to the King’ from Louis XIV, who also appointed him as a geography professor to his son, the future Louis XV. Thanks to his prestige and financial power, l'Isle opened his own publishing and printing company, where he published this play in 1703. Engraving on copper, manually coloured after imprinting.
