Research information

"† I, Dragotă the judge in the city of Bucharest, with 12 guardians with the priests and the elders of the city, do write and confess with this book of the city, to ensure good faith at the hand of the Master Ghica, the son-in-law of Master Neagu, merchant in Bucharest, so that it may be known that the holy monastery of Pană in Bucharest, where the great martyr Catherine is the titular saint, has 3 vineyards in the deserted hills of Bucharest, close to Master Ghica’s vineyards. Therefore, as Father Gherasim from Sinaia is the abbot of the holy monastery and having found them abandoned and not having the means to work them, they bargained with Master Ghica before us and with many priests and city dwellers and merchants, and they exchanged it with the father of the abbot and gave to the holy monastery cattle, money, oxen, hives, as we all found it necessary to add to the holy monastery, not like the price of these 3 abandoned vineyards, which also allowed for the alms, 4 oxen and 4 cows and 8 hives. And we all priced them, so that the 4 oxen would be 14, and the 4 cows would be 12, and the 8 hives would be 10. And, after bargaining, after he gave such cattle and hives to the monastery, and at the hand of the abbot’s parent, before us and before all the neighbours going up and down, they also drew up an act, signed by the parent of the abbor, with a curse for no other abbot to break this deal, because these cattle were left to the holy monastery, and they should serve as nourishment and reinforcement, an estate for an estate. For this reason, calling us, together with many city dwellers being present for the bargaining, we also drew up the book of the city as document, to make it his estate forever, for himself and his lady and for their children, as many as God will give them. Testimonies were also given for this book of the city: Father Barbul, father Stoica, Father Staico ot Sveati Gheorghie, Master Radul cupeţ ot Bucharest, Master Pană, son-in-law of Nedelco , and copyist Papa, his brother-in-law Anton the brass worker, copyist Alexandr, copyist Borcii, and other priests and townsmen, who will sign here below. And for assurance we also appended the city seal. Pis Vlădilă gramatic ot gospodscoe ţârcve with their learning. Noiemvrie 1 dni, vă leat 7178 <1669>.
