Student at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, alongside Dimitrie Paciurea and Frederic Storck, Oscar Han made a name for himself in Romanian sculpture between the two world wars. He will stand out for his innovative strength, his static compositions well mastered, his low tones and compact volumes, combining in an expressive synthesis tendencies such as monumental simplicity or realistic treatment. By valuing the specificity of the materials used, the potential of which will be highlighted with mature understanding, the artist will highlight the plastic virtues of the material, which will receive expressive meanings. He will often dwell on bronze, also used for statuary compositions, showing a vigorous temperament as well as a real mastery of compositional arrangement. (GM)
