Irina Tănase, fascinated by the mysteries of the aquatic world, has chosen to portray the mermaid in an atypical way as a symbol of temptations and traps guided by illusions. In Greek mythology, sirens had the paranormal ability to attract sailors with their soft voices, thus creating a mirage effect that would lead them to shatter their own ships against rocks. The artwork "Into the Abyss" draws a parallel between the feeling of alienation resulting from the abusive use of seduction and the impossible journey of delving into the abyss. The transposition of the mermaid into an artificial environment, specifically a bathtub, evokes the evolutionary limitations that the human spirit faces when resorting to such tricks that involve a substantial dose of fatality.
