17 x 10 cm (each)

The lot consists of three volumes (I, II, and IV) from the French edition of Dimitrie Cantemir's famous 1743 work. The fourth volume is missing. The binding of the volumes is original, period, leather, with the spine divided into six cartridges. The overall state of conservation is good, with minor defects. The three copies include two ownership ex-libris, one from the cantonal library of the canton of Vaud, the second from the politician and professor Frédéric-César de La Harpe (1754-1838). He was one of the main actors in the movement leading to the independence of the Vaud canton and the author of its first constitution. In 1783, Frédéric-César de La Harpe arrived in the Russian Empire as a tutor to the sons of Tsar Paul I, Constantine and Alexander, with whom he corresponded over a long period of time after leaving Russia.

For clarifications regarding the bidding procedure, hammer price costs, guarantee, payment, and collection terms for the winning lot, we recommend carefully reading/re-reading the Bidding Regulations.
