Iuliu Barasch (1815-1863) was one of the pioneers of modern medicine in the Romanian Country, a remarkable Jewish scholar, an enlightenment spirit, and a major popularizer of science. Organizer of medical institutions, he led the quarantine in Călărași and established in Bucharest the first hospital for child care. He also had a rich teaching activity, especially at the Sf. Sava College where he taught natural sciences and hygiene. The present work represents one of his essential scientific contributions, presented in the form of a course he held at the said college. The work was printed in the school's printing house. The binding of the copy is later, from pergamy.
