The first official visit of Prince Carol I to Craiova took place on May 2, 1867, after the prince had crossed the city a year before, as a result of his arrival in the country and his departure to the capital. In in 1869, in Craiova a "General Exhibition" will take place, commemorated by a number of medals, made by the illustrious engraver Moise Carniol. The obverse features the bust of Carol I, facing left, his titles, and the reverse includes an allegorical representation of animal husbandry and agriculture and the phrase "Honour and encouragement of agriculture and industry / Regional exhibition in Craiova".
