Obverse legend: +MONETAMOLDAV Obverse description: Central ox head with a rosette with five relatively rectangular petals between horns, outlined half-moon on the left and a rosette with five relatively rectangular petals on the right. Reverse legend: *STEPANVSVO[...]EVO Reverse description: Central shield having a double cross with the arm tips flared and slightly split and a globule in the center. Catalog reference: Romanian Coins and Banknotes (MBR), 732. The grossi issued by Stefan the Great are relatively rare coins in monetary discoveries. Such issues are known from a few isolated discoveries located especially in the Moldovan space. The type II grossi are known in a larger number than the type I grossi, being illustrative for the economic growth from the second part of Stefan the Great's reign. The piece is individualized by the late Gothic style, of central-European inspiration. The striking technique and the style of the piece are qualitatively superior to the monetary issues of the previous lords.
