A pivotal moment in Paul Neagu's work is the founding of what he called the Generative Arts Group in 1972. The hyphen, a basic concept, transformed and reconstructed many times, in various forms and with different materials, thus acquires a regenerative quality. Neagu is absolutely clear when stating that "the object becomes sculpture because it regenerates the space". The space regenerated by the hyphen becomes void and matter in equal measure, introspection and external observation alike. The work at hand thus appears to be a researching on the nature of art itself (according to Joseph Kossuth's precept on the artist’s role), with a strong metaphysical significance on the role and the (re)generative effect of the hyphen.
