Vasile Alecsandri (1821-1890) was distinguished both by means of a rich literary and diplomatic activity, as well as by the publication of volumes of Romanian folk poems, from the desire to make known, in the country and abroad, the value of the anonymous creation of the Romanian peasant. These volumes also drew the attention of Queen Elizabeth of Romania, who was inspired by them and who closely collaborated with the author. The copy is part of a rare edition published in Paris in 1853, with Romanian characters, from the transition alphabet. The binding is contemporary.
