Sigismund Bathory, four times Prince of Transylvania in the last two decades of the 16th century until 1602, came from one of the most illustrious noble families of Transylvania. He oscillated between the interests of the Ottoman Empire and those of the Habsburg Empire in this region of Europe and remained in history as an adversary of the ruler Michael the Brave. For the first time this portrait was published in the work "Atrium Heroicum" which appeared in Augsburg between 1600-1602. The piece is a copper engraving from the late 18th century.
