Petru Maior (1756-1821), historian, philologist, Greek-Catholic clergyman and archpriest of Reghin, belongs to the illustrious generation of the Transylvania School who dedicated their work to defining the national identity of the Romanian community within the Habsburg Empire. Inspired by their love for their nation, trained in the spirit of the Central European Enlightenment, the Transylvanian intellectual leaders of the second half of the 18th century, including Maior, laid the foundations of the concerns about Romanian identity in Transylvania. Petru Maior had a rich public and scientific activity. Within his work, the present work stands out as the first history of the Romanians, published with the consent of the imperial authorities and the censorship, in several editions. The copy is part of the first edition published in Buda in Romanian in Cyrillic characters. The binding is from the present days.
