George Rákócz II was Prince of Transylvania between 1648 and 1660. Allied with the Kingdom of Sweden, he nourished regional political ambitions, but was hampered by the rise of the Habsburg Empire and the strategic interests of the Ottoman Empire. His portrait was created by the German engraver Johann Martin Lerch who worked in Prague and was remarked for his portraits of the great personalities of the time from Central Europe. Engraving on copper.
