The exemplary fate of Father Archdeacon Ilarion Mureșan can be summarized as follows: He enjoyed being a monk at Nicula, playing the pew and painting icons on glass. It is undeniable that, through his talent and missionary commitment, he contributed decisively to the rediscovery and reactivation of the artistic craft practiced by the peasant icon makers of the village of Nicula for a century and a half, as an attitude of faith and piety before the overwhelming presence of the icon of Virgin Mary. I refer, of course, to the miracle-working icon painted by the priest Luca from Iclod around 1680, which provoked the famous pilgrimage in whose spiritual and cultural atmosphere the amazing artistic phenomenon of peasant iconography on glass manifested itself. Indeed, Father Ilarion can be considered the honest continuer of the peasant icon-makers of yesteryear, but also an innovator of the artistic tradition that generated the famous pilgrimages to Nicula", says PhD. Ioan Bizău.
