Andrei Saguna (1808/1809-1873), bishop and later metropolitan of the Orthodox Romanians in the Habsburg/Austro-Hungarian Empire, had a major impact during the 1848 revolution in Transylvania, together with the Greek Catholic bishop Ioan Lemeni. Șaguna is credited with the organization after 1848 of numerous Romanian schools which played an essential role in preserving the national identity of the Romanians in Austro-Hungary. This letter, sent from Sibiu to the parish priest Alesiu Nediciu from Ciclova Montană, refers to the recent re-establishment of the of Caransebeș Parish and to financial matters related to the parish, with the blessing and encouragement of the Metropolitan. The document is written in black ink, dated and hand signed by Andrei Saguna. On the reverse there are the postmarks and the stamp of the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Sibiu. The item is in a very good state of preservation.
