5. Sunrise

Nicolae Tonitza's career as a graphic artist spans his entire career. Whether working in ink and pencil as an assistant to studies and sketches for oil compositions, or creating self-contained works of graphic art dedicated to a cause or editorial projects, Tonitza's creation often revolved around the human universe. This gouache, made in the early 1920s, was most probably created to illustrate a magazine, recalling the vignettes published by Tonitza in the newspapers of the time.
