The creator of a universe of his own, which is broad and generous, receptive and sensitive, where traditions and renewals meet on the common ground of a deep knowledge of reality, Nicolae Dărăscu proves himself to be an innovator through his art. Having begun his studies at the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts, under the guidance of professors George Demetrescu Mirea and Ipolit Strâmbu, then pursuing them further in Paris, at the Julian Academy, in Jean Paul Laurens's studio, and then alongside Luc-Olivier Merson, his artistic evolution testifies from the very beginning an intense interest for drawing, which will be visible throughout his career. With a broad and spontaneous paintbrush stroke, perfectly subordinated to the drawing and permanently involved in space and form with all their consistency and materiality attributes, artist Dărăscu demonstrates an endless respect for this craft. His luminous, tonic palette, with mild chromatic eruptions, the feeling of harmony and contemplative silence help create a new climate, open to new ideas. Settling for a narrow range of colours, usually consisting of four of them, they merge in a dense, almost uniform structure, where the value modulations, in combination with brush strokes vibrations, follow the logic of shapes and perspective, thus succeeding in ordering the outlines and rendering the material structure in their entire variety. Often inverting the order of colours into effects of depth by placing cool colours in close-up and warm colours in the background, the painter proves himself a truly bold artist, showing endless possibilities of pictorial material, leading him towards new expressions and renewal.
