A fragment of Brasov cartography from the past century and at the same time a milestone in the gallery of famous landscapes realized from the window, this work becomes a specific view of Hans Eder's oeuvre. The artist's residence, established in Brasov in the '30s, was located at number 5 Kornzeile Street. The painter enjoyed an extraordinary view towards Sfatului Square and the Black Church, a fact that laid the foundation of a pictorial cycle dedicated to the beautiful panorama. The postcards of the period still keep the old name of Sfatului Square: Grain Market. Once, it was the meeting place of the "tarabagii" who sold vegetables. It was also the space where the famous Autumn Fair took place, in which even students were allowed to participate (girls received wooden spoons from boys, and the maids sweet cake with a mirror - the reputable lebkuchen). There was also the "Corso", a promenade place loved by locals, the fish market, and the famous Hirscher street. The view towards the square offered the painter the possibility to approach a dual perspective in shaping his work: the landscape and the still life. We find recurring elements in his creation, such as the jam jar, flower pots, fruits; but also old houses with colorful roofs, the Black Church or the square in all its splendor. The chromatic delight of the evening sky contributes to creating a warm, intimate atmosphere, specific to the home-studio, a space of perfect inspiration for the artist.
