Iconographic and stylistic identification elements: The icon is a feast day icon and was part of a feast day frieze on an iconostasis, of which seven have been preserved in the collection. The anonymous painter depicts the scene of the Dormition of the Mother of God, reducing it to the essential elements of the composition, treated symmetrically. In the axis of symmetry, Jesus is depicted in a mandorla, holding his mother's soul in his arms. In front of him, on the bier, the Virgin Mary is mourned by the Apostles. In the background, conventional architectures appear. The painting of the icon is marked by an accentuated graphics both in the rendering of the faces and in the treatment of the drapery of the clothes. The color range is lively, dominated by red and blue in several shades. Technical identification elements: The wooden support of the painting is reinforced at the back with a middle crossbar. Conclusions: The painting of the icon fits into the period of the evolution of post-Brancovan painting, practiced in local painting workshops until the beginning of the 19th century. Its evolution during the 19th century will tend either towards its rusticization, or towards its westernization (A.D.).
