Student la Atena și la București, Gheorghe, fiu de zugrav de biserici, și-a îndrumat cei doi fii, Pandele și Ionel, spre pictură. În atelierul de pe calea Moșilor au învățat amândoi pictura, Pandele făcând proba unui real talent. A abordat și teme facile, plăcute publicului larg. A rămas cunoscut pentru reprezentările realiste a lumii dinamice și diverse a nomazilor.
