28. After Dinner Critique [2020] Lot caritabil

1979, Cluj Napoca

Estimate:
EUR 4.000 - 6.000
Sold
EUR 5.500

oil on canvas, 50 x 40 cm, signed, dated and titled on the back, in black, "M. Bercea, After Dinner Critique, 2020"

Marius Bercea's subjects stem from his interest in the aesthetics of the urban environment, an interest derived from the changes that Romania has gone through as a result of the transition from communism to a democratic regime, from a centralized economy to a market one. The artist plastically transposes his observations through complex studies of architecture, topography, color, social relationships. Bercea applies the color palette with force: vibrant orange next to vivid tones of green, red next to bright yellow etc. The artist's works are found in both private and public collections, such as the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Peekskill or the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, Skowej. "After Dinner Critique is part of the current series of portraits of young people, portraits that focus especially on the generation of those born around the year 1989; the first generation that grew up entirely after the tectonic ideological changes in Romania. These young people gather in a dining room. Their social relationships are unclear and, despite physical unity, they appear more in dialogue with their own thoughts than between them. They simulate the ideological reading "Criticize after dinner.." in a space typical of Blake Edward's film "The Party"." (Marius Bercea)
