The workshop represents a central theme that has influenced Geta Brătescu's artistic trajectory. The meanings, the instances of the workshop are multiple: physical space, which has undergone transformations over time from early drawings to the latest collages, respectively a mental space of concentration, introspection, but also of protection from the outside, especially during the period of political interference until 1990. In this space, both physical and spiritual, the artist turns her attention and focuses on the subjective representation of femininity, from the human body to the state of mind. Women resume their primordial functions in ancient societies as creators and protectors, hence the recurring motif of Medea.
