7. Wir Sterben (We die - The ruins of a world)

Lilian Theil is a unique artist who, at the honourable age of 88, attracts the attention of the audience with an impressive number of works on textile support with a contemporary message. This association between a traditional technique of weaving and sewing, until recently associated only with women, and the contemporary message associated with the excessive consumption, moral and identity crisis that humanity is going through, represents the uniqueness of her works. Lilian Theil was born in 1932 in Brașov, where she graduated from the "Princess Elena" high school. In 1952, she was expelled from the "Nicolae Grigorescu" Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, on the grounds of "unhealthy origin", being the granddaughter of Professor Alexandru Obregia. That same year, she was evicted from her home along with her entire family. She resumed her artistic activity after the Revolution in 1989, in a purifying, cathartic artistic exercise, producing an impressive number of works. "The important thing for me is to convey my thoughts, ideas and feelings. For this, words, music, brush, and colour are useful, even cloths, needle and thread".
