Mihai Eminescu was captured, throughout his life, in only four photographs, which today are known and analyzed by specialists. The first of them was taken in the artist's youth, at the age of 19, in Prague, in 1869, in the workshop of the photographer Jan Tomas, during the journey to Vienna where the poet was heading to enroll in university. This is the most well-known photograph of the great poet, very publicized and present in the collective imagination. After this photograph, two other variants were produced in the country at different times, by the photographers from Iași Bernhard Brand and Nestor Heck, who preserve the original image, with small differences compared to the 1869 version, especially in color. The piece at hand was made in the workshop of the Iași photographer Bernard Brand, at the request of the "General Association of Romanian Students" whose ex-libris was stamped on the verso with green ink, in 1880. The photograph is attached to an original cardboard of the photographic workshop. The copy is in a good state of preservation.
